Holy Land Art Company was founded in 1922 by Alphonse Tonietti, a graduate of the University of Beirut trained in the ecclesiastical arts. He settled in New York city with his family and continued the business until his death in the mid 1950's.

       Chris Degheri, a member of the O'Toole family which had a large five story religious goods business on Park Place in downtown New York, purchased Holy Land Art Company from the Tonietti family. The business was located on Barclay Street until its move to Chambers Street in 1984.

       In November 1983, Tom Cleary joined his father-in-law in the business and eventually purchased the company from Chris Degheri in 1990. In 1988, the company expanded to Florida with a showroom in North Palm Beach. In 1992, the company relocated its New York City location to the present 20,000 sq ft. warehouse headquarters and design and administrative offices in Westwood, NJ.
